Roughhousing with the Kids

Roughhousing with the Kids

I've read several articles on the subject of roughhousing, and there are a variety of opinions. When things go too far, including hitting or biting, I stop and address the behavior. If it happens again, then playtime is over. [...more]

Role Models and People I Admire

Do you consider yourself a role model? If you're a husband, dad, manager, leader or a person of influence, then you are a role model. How often do you think about the way others perceive you? It's not usually the first thing on my mind. [...more]

A Fast and Wonderful Way to Evaluate Your Marriage

A Fast and Wonderful Way to Evaluate Your Marriage

Each Sunday my wife and I sit down and hold a weekly review that we call Companionship Inventory. We’ve been doing this since the beginning of our marriage, just over five years. It’s important to do this with your partner weekly, independent of children. You can call it anything that you want, but it basically [...] [...more]

How to Prioritize Your Marriage and Your Life

How to Prioritize Your Marriage and Your Life

A very wise man that I know named Richard Moffat gave a lesson on priorities that reflected the duties of a husband. Those priorities are, in order of importance, as follows: 1. A Higher Power. Whether you are Christian, Jew, Muslim or something else you owe your respect and diligence to something outside of yourself. Even [...] [...more]

10 Ways to Be A Good Husband

10 Ways to Be A Good Husband

Put your marriage first. Whether you are religious or not, some things are just sacred. Marriage is very near the top of the list of sacred things. Society is built on successful families and successful families are built on a bedrock foundation of trust, love and fidelity. Kung Fu Panda Fun Family Movie

I took my oldest daughter to see the movie Kung Fu Panda, and I've got to say it was one of the best kid movies I've seen in a long time. It's a classic good versus evil tale, with a slighted pupil gone bad up against an unlikely hero. The interesting thing to me, though, was the plot being as much about the battle of self-doubt within, as it was about the battle against evil in the world. [...more]

Seven Ways to Role Model Thankfulness

Seven Ways to Role Model Thankfulness

People like to complain. If it’s not the rise in gas prices, then it’s the fall in stock values.  Taxes are too high, and political accountability is too low.  The economy is in the toilet, and customer service sucks!  The house is always dirty, and the kids never appreciate how hard you work to put [...] [...more]
